Often times people think there is no proof that CBD has medical benefits. However, CBD is helping children day by day battle with seizure disorders.
CBD is the main ingredient in an FDA-approved drug used to treat childhood seizure disorders! On June 25, 2018, the FDA approved Epidiolex Oral Solution for the treatment of seizures associated with two different epilepsy syndromes. Epidiolex is used to treat Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome in people two years and older.
What is Hemp?
Hemp contains low concentrations of THC and high levels of CBD. Cannabinoids extracted from hemp plants, including CBD, until recently have been classified as marijuana and known as a Schedule I substance. A federal law that was created in 2018, reclassifies hemp and hemp-derived CBD as an agricultural commodity and exempts it from the list of Schedule I Drugs!
What studies support the use of CBD for Epilepsy?
Studies that have been ongoing for years led the FDA to approve Epidiolex on June 25, 2018. Epidiolex’s main active ingredient is pure CBD extract from the cannabis plant!
As summarized in a study published in the New English Journal of Medicine in May 2018, the frequency of seizures in patients have dropped drastically.
Additionally, in May 2017, New England Journal of Medicine published the results of examining the effectiveness of Epidiolex in people with Dravet syndrome.
